Asbestos Audits & Risk Management
We have seen time and again that planning asbestos removal or treatment well before a renovation job begins has saved our clients large amounts of both time and money later in the project.
Redecorating, renovating, or even demolishing all or part of a building? Have you considered that asbestos may be present? Asbestos materials are still present in many New Zealand homes and commercial buildings. Asbestos may be present in cement board and roofing, in decorative textured coating on ceilings, in pipe lagging, or as thermal, acoustic or fire retardant insulation.

Asbestos Management

We specialise in...
amositeChemsafety carries out comprehensive audits of buildings searching for asbestos products. We provide building plans indicating the extent and condition of asbestos materials, and, note the location of non-asbestos materials that may be confused with asbestos. A written report backs up the plans with a clear set of recommendations covering future management of the asbestos, and an asbestos register against which future inspections, work, or removal should be recorded. Our aim is to reduce your exposure to current and future asbestos risk to the minimum possible, in a timely, cost effective, and professional manner. We are entirely independent from asbestos removal contractors. Any advice we provide is soley in the best interest of our client. Chemsafety has the knowledge and experience to guide you through the process of appropriate decision making and scheduling. Our experience has shown that poorly carried out or supervised asbestos removal, or inappropriately chosen control methods, can lead to future removal work at cost even greater than that originally commissioned. Close independent supervision during asbestos removal reduces the risk of entire building contamination and evacuation. We will see your project through to a satisfactory conclusion. Chemsafety will liase with registered asbestos contractors to produce a timetable and removal plan that is achievable in the shortest possible time. At the same time we are conscious of holding direct costs as low as practicable while minimising your current and future asbestos risk.

Asbestos Awareness Training

Recent cases in New Plymouth and Christchurch have highlighted the importance of having staff (especially maintenance staff) trained in recognising asbestos (or suspected asbestos materials). Asbestos materials are still very common in New Zealand buildings. Even if your site has an asbestos register, there may be asbestos materials that have been missed. It is vital that maintenance personnel are aware of what they can and cannot do when working with asbestos materials, and that they can recognise suspect materials so that confirmatory testing can be undertaken before the materals are disturbed.
