Approved Handler Renewals
Approved Handler certificates are valid for a period of 5 years, and as these began to be issued in 2004 many are falling due this year. Some commonly asked questions are...
  • Will someone remind me that I'm due for a renewal?
If your certificate was issued by Chemsafety, then we should be in contact about 2 months prior to its expiry date. Please feel free to contact us in the meantime.
  • What is my liability if I forget to renew?
If you do not renewal you certificate, then you will no longer be an approved handler.
You will be unable to order tracked products, and if you handle substances in excess of the approved handler thresholds you will be in contravention of the HSNO Act.
If you have a Location Test Certificate for those substances, this will be unable to be renewed.
If you leave it too long to apply for your renewal, you will have to start the approved handler process again.
  • What's involved, do I have to attend a training course?
To renew your certification you have to demonstrate knowledge of any changes in the HSNO legislation, Codes of Practice and work practices since your certificate was issued.
Attendance of a training course is not required, but consider two things - how will you find out about the changes, and secondly, five years a quite a long time, and you may choose to attend a refresher.
  • What if I want to extend the scope of my certification?
Normally your certificate will be renewed with the same approvals, however you can upgrade by demostrating the required skills and knowledge to the Test Certifier.

Chemsafety has two test certifiers on staff, and we also conduct approved handler training, HSNO awareness and general chemical handling training.
